Scanner (radio) - A scanner is a radio receiver that automatically tunes, or scans, 2 or more discrete frequencies. Generally, scanners cover the non-broadcast radio bands between 30 and 950 MHz using FM, although there are models that cover more of the radio spectrum and use other modulation types.

Etymology of ham radio - By the early 20th century, the term "ham" for an amateur radio operator was well established, although origins of the term remain obscure.

Amateur radio - Amateur radio, often called ham radio, is a hobby enjoyed by many people throughout the world. An amateur radio operator, ham, or radio amateur uses two-way radio to communicate with other radio amateurs for public service, recreation and self-improvement.

Ham Award - Amateur Radio operators (Hams) collect QSL cards to qualify for awards issued by various organizations. For instance, the ARRL issues a "Worked All States" award to show that a ham has made radio contact with other hams in all 50 United States.
